Fishing nets and the Internet – IT and communications and service centres

Informations- und Kommunikationsdienstleistungen sind gefragt

Small and medium-sized companies specialised in IT and communication technologies are an active part of Vorpommern’s business landscape. The creation of intelligent software solutions, the development of innovative technologies and the installation of complex communications systems are only three examples of the broad range of expertise in this sector. New companies will find an excellent infrastructure and ideal business conditions in the region’s startup centres, such as TZV (Technologiezentrum Fördergesellschaft Vorpommern) in Greifswald or SIG (Stralsunder Innovations- und Gründerzentrum) in Stralsund.

At the same time, the IT curriculum at the University of Applied Sciences of Stralsund and the IT College in Putbus auf Rügen provide a steady supply of skilled entry-level workers, catering for the demand far beyond the region’s borders.

Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is also the land of the service centre. Telecommunication services have become an important growth driver. This sector is still in its infancy, with 36 per cent of its companies founded only in the past six years. At the same time, there are over 100 centres employing nearly 16,000 people throughout the state, around 5,000 of which work in Vorpommern. The key drivers of this development are the highly modernised telecommunications infrastructure and the availability of skilled workers. Another plus factor is the local pronunciation, as High German is spoken throughout Vorpommern.

The sector is supported by the Telemarketing Initiative Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The association brings together the interests of organisations, service providers and companies involved in telemarketing, telecommunications and eBusiness services. It also creates synergies between political, scientific and corporate bodies.
